Momotaro Project
We started the project in July 2022 with the idea that Momotaro, which is well-known to everyone in Japan, could be illustrated by foreign painters who have no background knowledge of the story, resulting in a diverse Momotaro that reflects the national and regional characteristics of each country.
At the time of the launch, we had no contacts with traditional painters, but with the support of various people, all the paintings were completed one year later in July 2023.
For this exhibition, we focused on the theme of Momotaro, a traditional Japanese fairy tale that also has international connections, and aimed to create a place where people can exchange their hearts and minds through the creation of paintings in which the story of one country is told in accordance with the traditions of another.
